Well, that’s not a post heading that I likely ever expected to write!
A couple of weeks ago I was making my morning coffee while my phone was on charge and began to ring in the front room. So far, not so unusual. I wander in … private number. A little more unusual, or someone simply trying to sell me something! Almost uncharacteristically I answered rather than let it run to voice message. I certainly hadn’t expected these words to follow:
Hi. It’s Steve Yabsley from BBC Radio Bristol. I’ve seen your website after reading an article and following a link in one of the local magazines. You seem like a really interesting guy and I wondered if you would like to come into the BBC studios for a chat on my Sunday afternoon show?
I think it’s safe to suggest, had a nearby feather been available, you could’ve quite easily knocked me down with it!
So, about ten days later, I find myself sitting opposite Steve behind his bank of computer screens and mission controlesque console, slightly intimidating On Air lights flashing and large fluffy microphone shoved under my nose. Miley Cyrus finishes singing about her Flowers and the resulting interview is preserved here … a virtual leap from an air-plane at 30,000 feet … just a wee bit out of my comfort zone. Did I go to pull the ripcord only to realise I’d packed my sandwiches instead of my parachute?!
